The Good Shepherd Alliance's efforts for homeless children have been recognized by America's Promise and our Family Shelter was named the first "Shelter of Promise" in the United States.

The Good Shepherd Alliance was named a National Point of Light on August 11, 2004.

“After meeting with the shelter monitor, our client was given a bed, and when I left, your staff member was asking our client what she needed. The fact that she had nothing but the clothes on her back must have seemed overwhelming to her, but when I left, I knew that she was receiving the support she desperately needed. I saw children playing outside, and interacting with each other. I was grateful for the help given our client, and also the help given to the others living in the shelter. There is a tremendous sadness that there are those without homes, but I felt comfort in what Good Shepherd is providing.”

“I was put out of my house and had no where to go. When I went into the shelter I had nothing; no job, money or transportation. I got a job with the help of the monitor taking me and picking me up. I was also able to save enough money to move into my own place with the help of the life skills classes that were provided for me at the shelter. I was taught how to budget and manage my money. I really give thanks to the Good Shepherd for allowing me to reside in the shelter and help me get on my feet.”
