AmericasPromise.gifThe Good Shepherd Alliance's efforts for homeless children have been recognized by America's Promise and our Family Shelter was named the first "Shelter of Promise" in the United States.

PointofLight.jpgThe Good Shepherd Alliance was named a National Point of Light on August 11, 2004.

“The interview was handled with great care and professionalism… you very clearly explained in detail what is available and what is expected and gave her every opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions. Your facility is in such a pretty setting, well maintained, clean, comfortable and attractive inside. I was most impressed with the safety factor. I was able to leave her knowing she was protected.”

“After meeting with the shelter monitor, our client was given a bed, and when I left, your staff member was asking our client what she needed. The fact that she had nothing but the clothes on her back must have seemed overwhelming to her, but when I left, I knew that she was receiving the support she desperately needed. I saw children playing outside, and interacting with each other. I was grateful for the help given our client, and also the help given to the others living in the shelter. There is a tremendous sadness that there are those without homes, but I felt comfort in what Good Shepherd is providing.”

“The people that work for Good Shepherd; how kind and nice they were to my family. I learned to be a better person and learned more about the Lord. The thing I’ll miss the most about the GSA is the people there because they really care about people. And I will miss Mrs. Grace. She has been a wonderful person to my kids and me. Please take good care of her for me. Thank you all again for the help you have given to my family.”

“I was put out of my house and had no where to go. When I went into the shelter I had nothing; no job, money or transportation. I got a job with the help of the monitor taking me and picking me up. I was also able to save enough money to move into my own place with the help of the life skills classes that were provided for me at the shelter. I was taught how to budget and manage my money. I really give thanks to the Good Shepherd for allowing me to reside in the shelter and help me get on my feet.”

“I wish to give my heartfelt thanks to (GSA) who always had an open door and took the time to ask how I was doing. For granting me extension in order for me to be able to transition smoothly (to my new home); for warmth and caring; help in getting my license tags and car repairs… the conversations concerning everyday life, children and family. You have my utmost respect. An awesome case manager who kept me on task; working with me through all of my trials and tribulations. Showing patience with me and working tirelessly with me; bearing with me. Your concern and time you gave to me is very much appreciated… for (the shelter monitor) who is tough when needed, always honest – even if it stings, who cares do deeply for her residents, who always made herself available to just talk or discuss a concern, taking me to the doctor when I was ill and dental appointments; who spent my birthday with me.”

“I made a mistake and it will follow me for the rest of my life. The one good thing is this place. I can come here and get cleaned up, eat a meal and wash my clothes. If I have a problem I can come in and talk to someone and you care about me. I don’t know what I would have done if it weren’t for Good Shepherd. I would probably be dead. I thank God for you. It is really hard out there, I mean it. I am just trying to get my life together.”
